Common Questions
-
Simply submit an online enquiry form to book a consultation, and we’ll arrange a time to discuss your brief, budget, site conditions and vision for your custom transportable cabin in Tasmania or interstate. From there, we guide you through planning, design and construction.
-
Our transportable cabins and buildings are classified as permanent structures, not tiny homes on road-registered trailers. This means they generally require council approval and are subject to planning and building permits.
Because regulations vary between councils across Tasmania and mainland Australia, we recommend contacting your local council or engaging a town planner early to confirm site-specific requirements. We can also guide you through this process as part of your project.
-
Build time depends on the size, design and level of fit-out. As all Cabin Collective builds are custom-designed transportable buildings, timeframes vary.
Most projects are completed within 8–20 weeks from the scheduled commencement date after deposit payment. Lead times on feature items such as custom windows and doors can extend this timeframe, and we communicate these clearly before construction begins.
-
Yes. We can supply our cabins and transportable buildings to lock-up stage if preferred.
This includes a completed exterior shell with the interior ready for insulation, service rough-in and internal lining. This option is ideal for clients wanting to manage part of the internal fit-out themselves.
-
Absolutely. Our cabins can be designed for off-grid installation in Tasmania and beyond.
We work alongside trusted local electricians and solar specialists to tailor off-grid power systems to your needs. Alternatively, we can complete the electrical fit-out so it integrates seamlessly with your chosen off-grid system.

Cabin Collective transportable buildings are constructed in our workshop in Four Mile Creek, Tasmania.
We deliver throughout Tasmania and Australia-wide, subject to transport access and logistics.
-
Foundation requirements depend on your site classification and engineering specifications.
Our transportable cabin subframes are designed to work with engineered foundation systems and are most commonly installed on concrete piers. We typically manage site preparation and foundation works, which are quoted separately as part of the installation scope.
-
Installation depends on site access and location.
The most cost-effective delivery methods are tilt tray or side loader. For restricted sites, we can crane cabins into position. In remote or difficult-access locations, helicopter installation is also possible — as completed in Tasmania’s Central Highlands.
-
We structure pricing into three components:
Planning
Construction
Installation
Planning and installation costs are site-specific and vary depending on location, access and engineering requirements.
As a general guide, our custom transportable cabins typically range from $2,000–$5,000 per square metre for construction and finish. Final pricing depends on size, design complexity, materials and inclusions.
